I grew up in a family of five, with two older brothers and two sisters, placing me right in the middle. As with many families, sibling rivalries were common, but over time I learned to get along, especially with my sisters. While golf wasn’t a big part of our upbringing, I was initially introduced to baseball, a sport I played for several years. My journey with golf began when my parents joined a local golf club, where I took lessons alongside other kids my age. Every Friday morning, we’d receive instruction, followed by the chance to practice on the course.
In high school, I had the unexpected opportunity to coach the girls’ sports team during my junior and senior years. Though I initially questioned why I was chosen, I embraced the challenge and learned a great deal about teamwork, leadership, and myself. Despite not having an in-depth understanding of football like others, I made the most of the experience. After high school, I attended Western Michigan University, where I continued to coach both boys and girls, further honing my skills in understanding and supporting others.
My professional career began at General Motors Corporation in Warren, Michigan, where I had the opportunity to teach and mentor others. Eventually, I ventured into running my own business, which presented its own set of challenges and rewards. The experience taught me invaluable lessons about perseverance, resilience, and leadership.
As I approached the later stages of my career, I found myself wondering what my next steps would be. This led me to pursue a passion project: writing a book. That’s how Mr. Dimples was born. Crafting a story about a golf ball that comes to life was no easy task. It took years of late-night writing sessions, countless revisions, and feedback from friends and family to bring the story to completion. Each piece of advice pushed me to refine the book further, making Mr. Dimples not just a story, but a reflection of my life experiences.
I wrote this book to share some of those experiences with you. My hope is that Mr. Dimples inspires you to embrace challenges in your own life and career, just as I have. The underlying message is simple: believe in yourself, never give up, and understand that we all need to work together. In life, as in golf, “believe in the ball.”
